I came across this Disney song, and I thought that if I were to make a play out of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I would definitely play this song at the end. I mean, it kind of fits it extremely well with the context of Severus Snape. The song is called "One of Us". It's from Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.

Hi! Hi!

I can't see the point in going to school these few days! We're just slacking the hours off everyday and wasting time. Honestly, I've MUCH BETTER things to occupy myself with. Crummy ARTS Fest. The teachers must be so free till they have nothing to do.

For quite some time, I must say I've discovered the joys of reading and writing fanfiction.

A Squishy Experience

Yesterday, I was utterly disgusted with the HUGE crowds at Causeway Point Shopping. Just imagine, being jostled around and squashed like sardines in a tin. *shudders* Horrible. Absolutely horrid.

And guess what was the reason for the huge crowds? Oooh, S.H.E. came to the shopping centre. Yes, yes. Oohs and ahhs and whatnot. They just came to endorse that ridiculous Osim uKimono anyway, and ended up jamming the entire shopping centre. In a twisted sort of way, I'm rather impressed.

Oh wells. Now's the time for me to release a string of profanities and insults. Here goes: stupid cumbersome incorrigible imbecilic brats who don't have an ounce of sense. In short, dunderheads.

Finally... A post!

Frankly, I'm quite flabbergasted as to how this weird song is ostensibly taking the school by storm recently. It's quite cute, though.

This. Blog. Is. So. Dead.

I just realised how long it's been since I last posted.

How horrifying. I shall do as much as I can in this ludicrous PT-filled week to restore my blog back to its original glamour.

Or so I hope.

I laugh some more

I found it extremely amusing that viewers of the Ultimatum agreed with me that it was a crappy drama, and they took two newspaper articles to argue over that.

What's funnier is that they spent FOUR newspaper articles debating over whether Zoe Tay looks older than Fann Wong or not, which inspired a journalist to publish an article about how childbirth affects the looks of women.

I laugh some more. I laugh more than I did when I watched the drama.

Harry Potter

Haha, watched Harry Potter 6 yesterday... The movie was quite good, actually... But I wished the scriptwriter had cut down on all the student romance parts and built more on the important nicer parts, like the battle to defend Hogwarts at the end, the romance between Lupin and Tonks, etc.

Basically, as it is with all the other movie instalments of Harry Potter, this movie has omitted too many details from the book, details which may not seem so important but are actually paramount in giving the movie a complete feel. Now, it feels rather detached, like if you're not reader of the books, you wouldn't understand the transition from one scene to another, or why some characters are behaving the way they are.

And why does Severus Snape have so little screen time??? The movie made it seem like the Half-blood Prince was not important at all; on the contrary, the Ron/Lavender rubbish was given so much screen time that I felt like jumping up from my seat and whacking the cinema screen. Right, Remus Lupin is another character who was given too little screen time. Seriously, the scriptwriter needs to get his priorities right... I get the feeling that he's some pubescent individual who is suffering from nostalgy of the time where his teenage hormones raged; as a result, we audience are tortured by excessive scenes of Lavender prancing around Ron and emitting her retarded overly-done "Won-won".

Haiz, I hope the movie instalment of the seventh book focuses more on Severus Snape... I think of all the Harry Potter characters, he is the most intriguing and to some extent, admirable. He isn't your typical boring hero who saves the day and defeats the villain to the applause of the surrounding characters (yes yes, bravo to Harry Potter); he is rather more like an anti-hero, who has many flaws in his character but ultimately redeems himself in the reader's eyes by displaying his best side: unwavering love and immense bravery. Yet, without him, we know that Harry Potter's brilliant attempts to save the world would fail miserably. Severus Snape fits perfectly the image of the byronic hero, and from what I can see, he is about the only protagonist who has chances to make his choices, and decide where his loyalties should lay. Perhaps it is the presence of such internal moral conflict and ambiguity that makes the character so fascinating... In fact, his story is much more moving than that of Harry's and Voldemort's.

The Beauty of Writing

We discussed this poem by William Blake recently in Literature class:

The Tyger

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

William Blake

*Sigh* Such a lovely poem... Here's a video related to the poem:

I laugh

Ho ho, I've been watching the Channel 8 blockbuster "The Ultimatum" 《双子星》lately, and I'm having some difficulty trying to comprehend Mediacorp's idea of a "mega blockbuster". At least, that's what the drama series is supposed to be, but I'm afraid they're failing miserably.

Yes, EPIC PHAIL.

Seriously, there are soooo many questionable points in the series; I shall do the honours of listing them down:
  1. Yu chen and Song qiao are supposed to be of the same age, but how does Mediacorp seriously think it's going to achieve that, when Zoe Tay and Fann Wong OBVIOUSLY do not look like the same age??? This must be a harzardously serious case of short-sightedness/long-sightedness, whichever you'd prefer.

  2. Sun min looks nothing like a boy at the beginning of the series, where she was supposed to pretend to be a boy. I personally thought it was a very miserably failed attempt to disguise Felicia Chin as a boy.

  3. This series includes a "God of Gamblers" as well. It was a very painful process to watch Li Nanxing trying to do that supposedly cool card shuffling thing, which WOULD have been cool if not for the fact that I could see that the cards were all stuck together with a long piece of translucent pinkish-red tape. Sigh. PHAIL.

  4. Why is it that Ye Renyi comes across as nothing but an annoying spoilt brat??? Seriously, I'm sure his character has more depth than that right. I guess it's thanks to Elvin Ng's "wonderful" acting - all he seems to be capable of is shouting, flaring his nostrils and enlarging his eyeballs. And the way his character died was so dumb; I can't believe the scriptwriter even thought of it.

  5. What on earth is the point of introducing a He Chaoqun into the last eight episodes of the series, when he's probably going to die from some disease anyway? It just creates so much unnecessary conflict, when they could have worked on expanding the Sun jie/Song qiao love plot?

Haiz, anyway, there are lot's more of this kind of problems, too many for me to list them all. I think that the only character worth watching is Sun jie. I mean, the character is about the only person in the show to have depth and drama. And he's a cool character. I hope the character doesn't die; I want him to have a happy ending with Song qiao!
